Partial Independent Living and Life Skills

Role in Aftercare:

  • A core function of aftercare is to empower residents by helping them acquire and practice essential skills for daily living. 

  • Gradual transition from a completely supervised 1:1 setting to partial independent living with less staff, promoting autonomy without abrupt loss of support.

Components:

  • Supported housing options (e.g., shared housing with decreased staff)

  • Skill-building in areas like budgeting, meal prep, transportation, household chores, laundry, and hygiene

  • Goal setting for moving toward more independence

  • Structured routines and consistent schedules create a predictable and stable environment, which can help reduce anxiety. 

  • Money management with ongoing support to fine-tune crucial skills like budgeting, paying bills, and responsible spending.
